Rovinj

Located on the west coast of Istria, Rovinj is one of the most popular and most developed tourist resorts in Croatia. The old town was built on the island, which was connected to the mainland in the 18th century. Known as one of the most picturesque and romantic cities in the Mediterranean, Rovinj has attracted a large number of tourists in the last few decades, most of whom return faithfully from year to year.

Why are they coming back? Maybe it’s the breath of the past that you feel as you walk down the narrow cobbled streets of the old town. Or maybe it’s its 22 islands and islets, the mild Mediterranean climate, the carefully designed parks, the tidiness of its streets, the friendship of the locals or the many and varied city events. Or all that! Rovinj manages to combine his rich tradition with modern times in a very interesting way. As it is also an active fishing port, you can experience the atmosphere of a small fishing village, especially during the popular fishermen’s festivities. On the other hand, the city develops exceptional gastronomy and offers a high standard of tourist services in general.

The foot of the church of St. Euphemia is the favorite gathering place of artists from all over the world. Walking through its streets, you will come across many art galleries and studios, while once a year, in August, you have the opportunity to attend the largest open-air exhibition on the Adriatic coast, which is held in one of the main old city streets – Greece. It is almost impossible to list all the attractions of Rovinj, so we suggest you visit it and surrender to its beauty сме We are sure that it will win you over and that sooner or later you will come to visit Rovinj again.

Old town

The old town of Rovinj rises on a peninsula and bears witness to the past times and valuable achievements of its craftsmen. Limited space led to the construction of narrow buildings, streets and small town squares. Of particular interest in the city center are the characteristically designed chimneys. The city itself was declared a cultural monument in 1963.

The Church of Saint Euphemia

The church is the most impressive building that bears the name of the protector of the city. It dominates the entire historic city center of Rovinj. It was built in the 18th century, and the Venetian-Baroque style façade was added in the middle of the last century. At the top of the bell tower 6 meters high stands the copper statue of Saint Euphemia, which shows the direction of the wind by turning depending on the side of the blow.

The castle on the island of St. Andrew (St. Andrew)

It was originally a Benedictine monastery founded in the 6th century AD. In the 15th century, the Franciscan order added additions and was rebuilt in the late 19th century by Baron Hutter. The castle has now been converted into a hotel.

Rovinj Aquarium

The aquarium is part of the Ruder Boskovic Institute’s Marine Research Center. The aquarium has been operating for over 100 years and is one of the oldest in the world.

Museum

The Rovinj City Museum was founded in 1954. It houses valuable examples of art and houses a science library with more than 30,000 books. Various exhibitions are organized at the Museum throughout the year.
